Excellent River Fishing - SUMMER UPDATE

2/4/2015

PictureOne of the great local rivers - the Waioeka.
We are now into February and the cicada's are in full cry.  Here in the Eastern Bay the month of January has seen very little rain and consequently the rivers are quite low and green algae is becoming a bit of a nuisance, that does not mean that the fishing hasn't been good though and now that the holiday makers have gone home it will only get better.
At the time of writing we have had overnight rainfall and this should help flush the river and get the fish moving. I was up the river yesterday checking out various pools and I must say there are some very good trout around.  I landed a fiesty 2 kg Jack in mint condition and had a much larger trout break my hook!!!
I am looking forward to the coming weeks and months as I'm picking we are going to have an extended summer and the fishing should be excellent right up to June.
Cheers

Brian
